Premium−70%Primal — 100-Card Commander Deck
SKU DECK-PRM-100
Spear, the Last of His Tribe and Fang, the Last of Her Brood — Spear & Fang, partnered — lead a Gruul (red/green) Commander deck built on Enrage: twenty-seven creatures trigger whenever they are dealt damage, from any source, your own included. Spear puts a +1/+1 counter on every creature of yours that is hurt and throws one into a fight each combat; Fang, a planeswalker commander, bites your own creature with her +1 to wake it. What doesn't kill them comes back bigger.
Primal — Spear & Fang, Two Against the World
Commanded by Spear, the Last of His Tribe and Fang, the Last of Her Brood, this Gruul (red/green) 100-Card Commander Deck comes from Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal, a world without a single word. A caveman comes home from the hunt and finds his cave empty, his family taken by a pack of predators; the same morning a tyrannosaur loses her clutch to the same pack. They meet on the riverbank, kill the pack together, and from then on they survive together — two species, no language, one grief. Every episode is a fight, and every fight leaves them hurt and angrier. The valley comes with them: Mira, Who Would Not Kneel, the Ape-Men with their chieftain and their shaman, the mammoths, the great serpent of the river, the long-neck maddened by plague, the night-flyers under the red moon and the Vikings, across the painted cave, the tar pits, the frozen pass and the smoking mountain. Spear & Fang are two separate partner commanders — Spear a creature, Fang a planeswalker commander — and each prints Partner with the other's full name.
- Enrage, word for word: twenty-seven creatures print the real Ixalan dinosaur ability word — "Enrage — Whenever this creature is dealt damage, …" — and Spear's Stone Axe grants it to whoever carries it. It triggers on any damage from any source, yours included, so the deck hurts its own beasts on purpose: Spear's fight every combat, Fang's +1, Wake the Fury, Spear Makes Fire, The Fire-Keeper of the Mountain Tribe, Fire-Spitting Lizard, Wildfire on the Plain, The Smoking Mountain, The Red Moon Plateau and Spear's Necklace of Teeth.
- Every wound pays differently: Three-Horned Charger and The Brachiosaur Elder draw; The Chieftain of the Ape-Men, The One-Eyed Hunter and Pteranodon Screamer burn; River-Hunter Spinosaur ramps; Raptor Pack Alpha and Fang's Clutch of Eggs make tokens; The Great Serpent of the River locks down an enemy creature; The Stegosaur of the Ford makes the rest of your team indestructible.
- Spear: a 4/4 with trample that puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control that is dealt damage and, at the beginning of combat on your turn, makes one of your creatures fight a creature you don't control.
- Fang: starting loyalty 4. Her +1 deals 1 damage to your own creature, which gets +2/+0 and trample; her −3 deals 6 damage to an opponent's creature or planeswalker; her −8 gives you an emblem that turns every wound on your creatures into that much damage to any target.
- Payoffs that read the wound: The Painting on the Cave Wall, The Grief That Feeds the Rage and The Rage Under the Red Moon trigger whenever any creature you control is dealt damage.
Why Gruul
Red is the rage: the fire Spear learns to make, the volcano, the berserker who laughs when he is cut. Green is the valley and its beasts: Fang, the mammoths, the snakes, the herds. No white, because there is no law and no mercy here; no blue, because there are no words and no plans; no black, because nothing comes back from the dead in Primal — Fang Comes Back for Him returns creature cards to your hand, not to the battlefield.
Two combos close the game. The Mirror in the Pool: The Shaman of the Ape-Men copies Herd-Thief of the Northern Tribe, the hasty copy takes control of the Shaman and untaps it, and the Shaman copies again — unlimited hasty 3/3 attackers. The Wound That Never Closes: The Tyrant Who Would Not Fall is indestructible and its Enrage can target itself, so a single point of damage — Fang's +1 is enough — loops as long as you like, and The Grief That Feeds the Rage drains each opponent for 1 on every pass. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Gruul Signet, Talisman of Impulse, Spear's Necklace of Teeth, The Fire-Keeper of the Mountain Tribe, The Trail Through the Ferns and The Long Walk to the Valley ramp; The Scent of Prey tutors; Swallowed Whole, Smash the Slaver's Idol, Tooth and Claw, The First Hunt Together, Two Against the Pack and Fang's −3 remove threats; The Night the Valley Burned is the only sweeper — 13 damage to each creature, every Enrage creature triggers on the way out, and the indestructible Tyrant survives it; The Painting on the Cave Wall, Three-Horned Charger, Tracking by Scent and The Hunter's Patience draw; Thunder-Hoof Stampede, Fang's Roar and The Last Roar finish. The 35 lands include ten places from the valley, from The Painted Cave of the Tribe and The River of Snakes to The Tar Pits and The Field of Old Bones.
A complete 100-card Commander deck plus 4 tokens, tuned for Bracket 4, available as a digital print-yourself edition or a printed physical deck, and offered in 10 languages.
