The Sopranos — Fifty Minutes a Week

Commanded by Tony Soprano, Boss of North Jersey, this Dimir (blue/black) 100-Card Commander Deck follows six seasons of a New Jersey boss who fainted by his swimming pool the day a family of ducks flew away, and went to see a psychiatrist about it. He runs a crew, a strip club, a waste-hauling company and a pork store; he keeps collapsing; and for fifty minutes a week he tells Dr. Melfi more than he has ever told anyone. The deck plays both halves of that life as one cycle.

  • Session: reveal your hand to an opponent of your choice and remove a stress counter from each creature you control. Each card with Confession revealed this way triggers, then that opponent chooses a nonland card you revealed; you can't cast it until your next turn. Dr. Melfi holds one for {T}, Father Phil, Talk Therapy, Test Dream, Funhouse, Free Association, The Stugots and Cut to Black all hold one, and Carmine Lupertazzi, Carmela and Dr. Kupferberg pay you every time.
  • Confession: eleven cards want to be in your hand when you talk. Carmela makes a Treasure, Adriana and Meadow draw, Vito and Long Term Parking drain 2, Janice returns a creature card, Isabella untaps a permanent, and I Find I Have to Be the Sad Clown makes each opponent lose 1 life per Confession revealed.
  • Panic Attack: printed on fourteen creatures. When a creature has stress counters equal to or greater than its toughness, it collapses: tapped, cleared, and it doesn't untap next turn. Stress comes from the job — Whacked, Commendatori and It's All a Big Nothing cost one, Tony, Furio and Gloria pick it up in combat, Paulie turns it into mana — and ten cards pay for the fall: The Ducks in the Pool untaps and drains, Uncle Junior makes an opponent sacrifice, Christopher draws two, Patsy makes a Treasure, Bobby grows.
  • The boss on the couch: Tony gets +1/+0 for each stress counter on him, and when he attacks each opponent loses life equal to the stress on your creatures. Whenever any creature you control collapses, he holds a Session.

Why Dimir

Blue is the couch — the therapy, the dreams of Isabella and Kevin Finnerty, the Prozac, the things said and then regretted. Black is the job — the envelopes, the bust-outs, the Pine Barrens, Livia's grudges. Two combos close the game: The Ducks Come Back (Paulie Walnuts + The Ducks in the Pool) turns his stress into unbounded black mana and drain, and Fifty Minutes, Forever (Dr. Melfi + Isabella in hand + Dr. Kupferberg) loops Sessions for unbounded drain, or Treasures with Carmela. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Dimir Signet and Talisman of Dominance ramp; A Guy Who Knows a Guy tutors; Whacked, Members Only, Long Term Parking, Last Ride on the Stugots and Bust Out remove threats; Forget About It counters; Cut to Black wipes the board and then holds a Session; Wiretap in the Basement, Hesh Rabkin, Prozac Prescription and Woke Up This Morning keep the cards coming.

A complete 100-card Commander deck plus 3 tokens, tuned for Bracket 4, available as a digital print-yourself edition or a printed physical deck, and offered in 10 languages.
