Avatar — Pandora

Led by the partners Jake Sully, Toruk Makto and Neytiri, Daughter of the Omaticaya, this Simic (green/blue) 100-Card Commander Deck draws on James Cameron's Avatar, The Way of Water and Fire and Ash. A paraplegic marine drives a Na'vi body grown for his dead twin, joins the Omaticaya to move them off an unobtanium deposit, learns from the chief's daughter, chooses his ikran on the arches of Iknimaya, falls in love with the forest and ends up on the back of Toruk, at the head of five clans against the company that sent him. Fifteen years later the family hides among the Metkayina, the reef people, and the creatures of the sea go to war. The cast includes Mo'at, Eytukan, Tsu'tey, Grace Augustine, Norm Spellman, Trudy Chacón, Neteyam, Lo'ak, Kiri, Tonowari, Ronal, Tsireya and Aonung, with Payakan the tulkun, Seze the ikran, Toruk, a thanator, direhorses and titanotheres.

• Tsaheylu: word for word on fourteen Beasts, and on all Beasts with Tonowari — "Tap an untapped Na'vi you control: This creature becomes ridden until end of turn. Activate only as a sorcery." Each Beast prints its own "Ridden —" line: Seze gains double strike, the thanator fights when it attacks, the skimwing can't be blocked, the tulkun mother bounces a permanent, Toruk gives the team +2/+2 and trample.
• The rider is on the Beast: the Na'vi doesn't fight beside its mount, it's on its back — it taps, stays home, and the animal goes to war with its line lit. The bond is renewed each turn, and a Na'vi that arrived this turn can already make it.
• The commanders are the plan: Jake makes ridden creatures you control fly, and whenever a creature becomes ridden it gets a +1/+1 counter and you draw a card. Neytiri has reach and makes a Beast ridden for free at the beginning of each of your combats. Thirty-four cards carry or read the mechanic.

Why Simic

Green is the forest and its animals — direhorses, titanotheres, the thanator, Toruk, Eywa who answers. Blue is the sky and the sea — the banshees, the floating mountains, the reef clan, the tulkuns — and the science of the Avatar Program. No white, no black, no red: the clans are families, the deck fights without killing for its own sake, and fire belongs to the company. Two combos close the game: Plains Direhorse with The Neural Queue and a counter from Jake makes unlimited mana for Eywa Has Heard You, and Signals Between the Roots with Atokirina Drift makes unlimited Woodsprites, then mana, for Herd-Lord of the Titanotheres. Unobtanium Lodestone, Sigil of the Great Clans, Omaticaya Signet and Talisman of the Spirit Tree ramp; Iknimaya, the Choosing and Mo'at tutor; Tsu'tey, Neytiri's Arrow and Eywa's Judgment remove threats; Not in Our Forest and Ronal's Refusal counter; The Flux Vortex sweeps; The Song Cord and The Avatar Program draw.
