Bio-Booster Armor Guyver — 100-Card Commander Deck

Sho Fukamachi, the Guyver leads a Sultai (green/blue/black) Commander deck built on armor that comes out and goes back: Bio-Boost N puts N +1/+1 counters on a creature that has none, and recall removes them so it can boost again. Whenever a creature you control bio-boosts, it fights up to one creature you don't control, and at your end step Sho recalls any number of your creatures and draws a card for each.

Bio-Booster Armor Guyver — The Armor Comes Out

Commanded by Sho Fukamachi, the Guyver, this Sultai (green/blue/black) 100-Card Commander Deck follows Yoshiki Takaya's manga and its anime adaptations. A high-school student takes a shortcut home along a river, touches a device that fell from a crashed Chronos transport, and becomes the host of a Guyver Unit — alien armor left on Earth by the Creators. When he calls it, the armor erupts out of his own body; when the fight is over, it folds back into another dimension and leaves a tired boy in a torn school uniform. Chronos, the corporation that found the Creators' technology first, turns people into Zoanoids and wants its Units back. The cast includes Agito Makishima as Guyver III, Lisker as Guyver II, Tetsuro and Mizuki Segawa, Murakami and the Zoanoid defectors, Genzo Makishima, the Zoalords Richard Guyot and Archanfel, Imakarum Mirabilis, Aptom, Enzyme and the Hyper-Zoanoids Gregole, Vamore, Zx-Tole, Elegen and Dyme. Body horror without gore: armor that grows out of skin, people sealed in green tanks, and not a drop of blood on any card.

  • Bio-Boost: word for word on twenty-one creatures and the Zoanoid token — "Bio-Boost N — {cost} ({cost}: If this creature has no +1/+1 counters on it, put N +1/+1 counters on it.)" You call the armor only when it isn't already on, and because it is an activated ability you can call it at instant speed — to win a block, to answer removal, or before attacks.
  • Recall: "To recall a creature, remove all +1/+1 counters from it." The armor goes back and the creature can bio-boost again. Mizuki Segawa, The Control Medal, Gravity Controller, The Creators' Relic, Return to Human Form, The Guyver Unit Activates, Bio-Feedback and Mega Smasher all recall, and Adjustment Tanks creates a 2/2 Zoanoid every time you do.
  • Sho in three lines: Bio-Boost 4 for {2}{G}; whenever a creature you control bio-boosts, it fights up to one target creature you don't control; at the beginning of your end step, recall any number of your creatures and draw a card for each. Every boost is removal, every end step is card draw, and the next turn starts with the armor ready again.
  • The readers: Guyver Gigantic puts three additional counters on every boost and gives trample; Archanfel, Lord of Chronos drains 1 and Gregole, Hyper-Zoanoid deals 1 damage to each opponent per boost; Agito draws and makes each opponent discard, Lisker drains 2, Richard Guyot taps two creatures that stay tapped, Zx-Tole bounces one. Forty cards carry or read the mechanic.

Why Sultai

Green is the bio-organic — armor that grows out of skin, a body that regenerates, the monster inside the man. Blue is the Creators' technology — the Relic, the gravity sphere, the Unit that studies its host. Black is Chronos — abductions, adjustment tanks, the Remover. No red: the armor is not rage, it is a weapon that switches on and off. Two combos close the game. Aptom, the Mimic Zoanoid has Bio-Boost for {0}, and The Control Medal adds {C} whenever a creature bio-boosts and recalls for {1}: the loop repeats as often as you like, Archanfel or Gregole turn every boost into lost life, and Sho turns every boost into a fight. Isochron Scepter with Dramatic Reversal and enough mana rocks gives unbounded mana and untaps to recall Sho and boost him again and again. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Simic Signet, Talisman of Dominance, Chronos Bio-Technician, Following the Signal and Bio-Organic Growth ramp; The Unit Falls from the Sky, Agito's Double Game and Chronos Selection Program tutor; Unit Remover, Zoanoid Dissolution, Chronos Abduction, Pressure Cannon, High-Frequency Blades, Head Beam, Sonic Buster and Imakarum Mirabilis remove threats; The Armor Answers First and Chronos Intercept counter; Mega Smasher is the single sweeper — it recalls one of your creatures and deals twice the counters removed to each other creature; Chronos Surveillance Network and The Creators' Archive draw; The Armor Closes protects.
