Dead Space — Cut Off Their Limbs

Commanded by Isaac Clarke, Engineer, this Mardu (red/white/black) 100-Card Commander Deck begins in 2508, when the planet cracker USG Ishimura goes silent above Aegis VII and a repair shuttle is sent to fix its antenna. On board is a systems engineer, Isaac Clarke, whose partner Nicole is the ship's medical officer. The crew is dead and walking: the Red Marker, an alien monolith dug up on the planet, rewrites corpses into Necromorphs, and the only way to stop one is to cut it apart — not the torso, the limbs. Isaac learns it from a message scrawled on a wall and spends three games doing it with mining tools. The cast includes Nicole Brennan, Kendra Daniels, Zach Hammond, Dr. Challus Mercer and his Hunter, Ellie Langford, Hans Tiedemann, John Carver, Michael Altman, and the Necromorphs from Slasher to the Brethren Moon.

• Dismember: word for word on every card that carries it — "Dismember N (Put N -1/-1 counters on target creature an opponent controls.)" One sentence, a standard counter.
• Cut, then finish: Isaac has vigilance, Dismembers 2 whenever he attacks, and whenever a creature an opponent controls with a -1/-1 counter on it dies, you draw a card — however it dies. Tiedemann destroys a dismembered creature, Boot Stomp exiles one for {W}, Stasis Module freezes it, Daina drains on each death, Kinesis Module throws the limb for 2 damage.
• Persist on your side: Mercer gives persist to all your Necromorphs, the Hunter removes its counters each upkeep, and Nicole Brennan, Senior Medical Officer stops -1/-1 counters from being put on your creatures, so the dead keep rising. One counter, two sides of the table.

Why Mardu

Red is the tooling — plasma, flame, cutting, the shockpoint jump. White is the engineer and the doctor — repair, stasis, quarantine and the only sweeper. Black is the Marker and Unitology — the dead that rise, the Church that worships it, Mercer's research.
