Ghost Rider — Look Into the Fire

Commanded by Johnny Blaze, Ghost Rider, this Rakdos (black/red) 100-Card Commander Deck starts with a stunt rider who signs a contract to save his dying father, and a bill that arrives as a passenger: Zarathos, the Spirit of Vengeance, riding his body every night with a burning skull, a burning bike and a chain. The spirit does not judge and does not investigate. It looks a sinner in the eye and makes him feel every pain he has caused. The whole lineage rides with him — Danny Ketch, Robbie Reyes and the Hell Charger, Alejandra Jones, Michael Badilino, Carter Slade, Kushala, Noble Kale and Zero Cobain — against Mephisto, Blackheart, Lilith and the rest of Hell.

• Penance Stare: printed on twenty cards. Target creature deals damage to itself equal to the total damage it has dealt this turn — combat damage, damage to players, damage to creatures, all of it counts, and an innocent creature takes nothing. Johnny Blaze stares at the beginning of each end step, opponents' included, so anything that attacked someone that turn burns. Zarathos makes its controller lose that much life too, and Johnny draws a card whenever a guilty creature dies.
• Make the table sin: Daimon Hellstrom, Hunted on the Highway and Dead Man's Roadhouse goad enemy creatures into attacking; Blackheart, Feel Their Pain, Roadhouse Brawl and Deathwatch make opposing creatures deal damage during your turn. Lilith, Innocent Blood and Satana Hellstrom read every death the stare causes.
• Hellfire: printed on twelve Vehicles and Equipment, from The Hell Cycle and The Hell Charger to The Penance Chain. Exile a creature card from any graveyard and the Vehicle becomes an artifact creature, or the Equipment attaches itself — no crew, no mana, once each turn, and it doubles as graveyard hate. Mephisto draws, Noble Kale drains, Carter Slade grows your creatures, Zero Cobain deals 2 damage, Soul Furnace adds mana and Centurious makes a Lost Soul token for every burned soul.

Why Rakdos

Black is the contract: Mephisto, the crossroads, the ledger and the graveyards the bikes burn for fuel. Red is the spirit: fire, the road, and punishment at full throttle. The two mechanics are one loop — the stare kills, the dead become the souls Hellfire burns, and the Hell Cycle, the Penance Chain and Robbie Reyes's Vehicles trigger a new stare when they attack or deal damage. Two combos close the game: Mephisto's Contract with Blood Debt of the Blaze turns any life loss into an endless drain, and Danny Ketch, Brother's Rider copying Twin Spirits of Vengeance makes as many hasty Riders as you need. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Rakdos Signet, The Medallion of Power and Soul Furnace ramp; Deal at the Crossroads tutors; Chain Strike, Hellfire Torrent and Condemned by the Rider remove threats; Judgment Night resets the board; Mephisto's Ledger, Night Ride and Bargain with the Devil keep the cards coming.
