Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann — Row, Row, Fight the Power

Led by the partners Simon the Digger, Lagann's Pilot and Kamina, Pilot of Gurren, this Gruul (red/green) 100-Card Commander Deck begins underground, where humanity lives. In Giha, a fourteen-year-old digger named Simon unearths a small drill-shaped key and, beside it, a tiny Gunmen that's just a face: Lagann. His big brother in spirit, Kamina, steals a Beastman Gunmen, Gurren, and when Gurren is about to lose, Lagann drills into its head: the two combine into Gurren Lagann. Every fight after ends the same way — something small pierces something bigger and the result outgrows both: Dai-Gurren, Arc-Gurren, then Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which throws galaxies. The cast includes Boota, Yoko and Leeron Littner, Nia Teppelin, Rossiu Adai, Kittan, Viral, Lordgenome and his generals.

• Combine: word for word on eighteen cards — "Return this creature to its owner's hand: Put +1/+1 counters equal to its power on target Gunmen you control with greater power. Combine only as a sorcery." The piece's power stays on the host as counters that never leave, and the cheap piece comes back to hand to be recast and recombined.
• Simon and Kamina: Simon is the piece — Combine {1}, Gunmen spells cost {1} less, and a card the first time you combine each turn. Kamina is the host — Gunmen you control have trample and haste, and a Gunmen with a +1/+1 counter grows again every time it attacks.
• Forty-one cards carry or read the mechanic: Yoko deals damage, Leeron makes mana, Nia protects, Rossiu draws, Gattai! combines everything at once, Kick Reason to the Curb doubles the counters, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann costs {1} less per counter.

Why Gruul

Red is Kamina — guts, shouting, haste, a cape and a katana against an army. Green is Simon and the Spiral — a digger, the earth, growth that never stops. No blue: the Anti-Spiral is reason, and this deck tells reason to get lost. Two combos close the game: Boota, the Pig-Mole with Leeron Littner, Gunmen Mechanic combines for free without limit for unlimited counters and Yoko's damage, and Gurren Lagann, the Combination with Row, Row, Fight the Power takes unlimited combats.
