Kaiju No. 8 — Kaiju Form

Commanded by Kafka Hibino, Kaiju No. 8, this Naya (green/red/white) 100-Card Commander Deck is set in a Japan that has kaiju the way other countries have earthquakes. Kafka is thirty-two and cleans up carcasses for Monster Sweeper Inc.; as a child he promised Mina Ashiro they would wipe out kaiju together, and she now commands the Third Division. Then a beetle-sized kaiju crawls into his mouth on a hospital bed, and he can become a kaiju himself — catalogued as Kaiju No. 8 — while joining the Defense Force on probation. The cast includes Mina Ashiro, Soshiro Hoshina, Kikoru and Isao Shinomiya, Gen Narumi, Reno Ichikawa, Iharu Furuhashi, Haruichi Izumo, Aoi Kaguragi, Konomi Okonogi, and Kaiju No. 9 and No. 10.

• Kaiju Form: word for word on every card that carries it — "Until end of turn, Kafka Hibino becomes a Kaiju in addition to its other types with base power and toughness 9/8, trample and indestructible." No custom counter.
• Kafka hits: the commander pays {4}; whenever he goes into Kaiju Form he deals 9 damage to up to one target creature an opponent controls once each turn, and his other Soldiers get +1/+1 while he's a Kaiju.
• The Defense Force: Hoshina attacking, Kikoru or a recruit arriving, Narumi connecting, Full Release and The Little Kaiju in the Hospital give him the form for free; Mina deals 3 damage, Konomi draws, Isao and Reno grow, Aoi calls a soldier. Thirty-one cards carry or read the mechanic.

Why Naya

Green is the kaiju body — regeneration and size. Red is the eruption — the transformation, the punch, the artillery. White is the Defense Force — squads, ranks, discipline and Mina's promise. The plan is linear: deploy soldiers, transform Kafka every turn, hit the best blocker, attack with a pumped team. Kaiju Form makes him indestructible, so The Sagamihara Neutralization, the only sweeper, spares him. Two combos close the game: Monster Sweeper Cleanup Crew with Defense Force Medical Officer makes unlimited green mana for the {4}, and every transformation drains with The Kaiju Alert Siren, Haruichi Izumo and Mina Ashiro; Kaiju No. 9, the Mimic with Third Division Rapid Response makes unlimited hasty soldiers. Kaiju Core Battery, Defense Force Insignia, Third Division Signet and Combat Suit Power Cell ramp; The Entrance Exam tutors; Neutralization Confirmed and Evacuation Order remove threats; The Operations Room and Konomi Okonogi draw; Hold the Line protects.
