Reminder card. Jack in: put a jack counter on target creature. A creature with a jack counter is INSIDE the simulation: it can't block or be blocked by creatures without jack counters, and abilities of permanents without jack counters can't target it. Two battlefields sit on top of each other in one battlefield. Only a permanent that is itself in there can reach what is in there — which is why ships, operators and programs say on their own cards whether they enter with a jack counter.

Residual self-image: whenever a creature with a jack counter is dealt damage, its controller is dealt that much damage. The body cannot live without the mind. This is the price of the first mechanic, it is symmetrical, and it applies to every jacked creature on the table, not only to yours.

Spells still target freely. Only ABILITIES OF PERMANENTS are stopped at the door.
