Sword Art Online — Level Up

Led by Kirito, the Black Swordsman and Asuna, the Flash, bound by Partner with, this Jeskai (white/blue/red) 100-Card Commander Deck starts in November 2022, when ten thousand players log into the first full-dive VRMMO and find there's no logout button. Clear the hundred floors of Aincrad and everyone goes home; drop to zero hit points and the headset kills you. A solo player in a black coat takes the last hit on the first boss, then on every other; the vice-commander of the Knights of the Blood Oath becomes the fastest rapier on the front line. The deck follows them from Aincrad to Alfheim, Gun Gale Online, Mother's Rosario and the Underworld, with Leafa, Sinon, Yuuki, Lisbeth, Argo, Yui, Eugeo, Alice, Cardinal and Administrator.

• Level Up: word for word — "Level up. (You get a level counter.)" Your level is the number of level counters you have; a "Level N —" ability works while your level is N or more. The counters are on the player: losing Kirito costs no levels.
• Kirito and Asuna: whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, Kirito levels you up, gets +1/+0 for each level counter, and at Level 5 has double strike. Asuna has first strike and vigilance, puts a +1/+1 counter on one of your creatures whenever you level up, and at Level 5 gives first strike to the whole party.
• Forty-seven cards read the level, lands included; nine cards level you up. Dual Blades is the only side rule — a creature carrying two Equipment has double strike. And it's a death game: no card in the deck returns a creature from the graveyard.

Why Jeskai

Red is Kirito's sword and the sword skills. White is Asuna, the Knights of the Blood Oath and the raids. Blue is the game itself — the Cardinal System, Yui, Argo's information, Eugeo's ice. No black: there's no respawn in a death game. Two combos close the game: Elucidator, the Black Sword with Starburst Stream and five lands takes unlimited combats, and Incarnation on Yui, Navigation Pixie makes unlimited hasty fliers. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Boros Signet, Talisman of Creativity and The Town of Beginnings ramp; Argo's Strategy Guide tutors; Linear, Vorpal Strike and Last Attack Bonus remove threats; The Collapse of Aincrad sweeps and every enemy it kills is a level; Argo the Rat and The Cardinal System draw; Anti-Criminal Code counters.
