The Boys Commander Deck · 100 Card Proxy MTG EDH (Butcher's Crew)

100% custom The Boys Magic proxy Commander deck, told from the street: Butcher's crew, the Godolkin students and the people who help — no member of the Seven in the box. Dossier is removal you build up instead of casting: each trigger puts a dirt counter on an opponent, and the third exiles the creature with the greatest power that player controls, without ever targeting it. Compound V gives any body +4/+4 and trample until end of turn and then sacrifices it, and Billy Butcher hands that ability to every other creature you control, so the deck spends its own board and gets paid for it by Mother's Milk, Dictate of Erebos and Ashnod's Altar. Rakdos (B/R), Bracket 4, two combos. Print Yourself at €30 (HD files, free delivery) or printed deck at €150.

The Boys Commander Deck · 100 Proxy Cards · MTG EDH · Butcher's Crew

A fully custom The Boys Magic proxy Commander deck, ready to play straight out of the envelope: 100 proxy cards with original artworks, built from the street upwards — five people with no powers, a lock-up full of other people's secrets, and a blue vial that makes you strong enough to win exactly one fight. This is a two-colour Rakdos (B/R) deck led by Billy Butcher, the Butcher.

This is the other side of the Vought deck, and it is a different product: no member of the Seven is in this box. Homelander, Starlight's old colleagues and the whole penthouse roster belong to the Villains of Vought set. Here the list is the van (Hughie, Mother's Milk, Frenchie, Kimiko, Mallory, Ryan, Terror), the Godolkin students (Marie, Jordan, Emma, Andre, Sam, Cate, Golden Boy) and the people who help — Susan Raynor, the Legend, Becca, Vogelbaum, Sameer Shah.

Why Rakdos, and why no white? Black is the file: leverage, blackmail, the deal with Mallory, the thing you agree to do because the alternative is worse. Red is the crowbar. There is no white on purpose — the Boys are not the good guys and the deck is not allowed to claim it. Every win in here is bought with somebody's life or somebody's reputation, and both mechanics are built to charge for it. Targeted power level: Bracket 4 — two combos, fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Ancient Tomb, Rakdos Signet), Demonic and Vampiric Tutor, Necropotence and Phyrexian Arena.

Deck Strategy

The whole deck is two words in order: leverage, then a crowbar.

Dossier is the original mechanic, and it is removal you build up instead of casting: "Put a dirt counter on target opponent. Then if that player has three or more dirt counters on them, remove three of them and exile the creature with the greatest power that player controls." Nothing happens on the first two triggers — you are filing. On the third, the biggest thing that player owns is exiled, because you do not kill a supe, you publish him. The counters sit on the player, so they survive board wipes, they are visible to the whole table, and everyone can see whose turn it is to be ruined. Note what dossier is not: it does not target the creature, so it cannot be fizzled by hexproof, ward, protection or a sacrifice in response — the choice is made on resolution, by rule (greatest power) rather than by you.

Compound V is the second mechanic: "Compound V {cost} ({cost}: This creature gets +4/+4 and gains trample until end of turn. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)" A human borrowing a supe's power for one fight and dying of it. +4/+4 and trample at instant speed wins a combat outright, and then the creature is gone permanently. Butcher himself gives every other creature you control Compound V {B}{R}, which means any body you draw is also a combat trick, and the deck is always trading its own board away by design.

  • Why the two mechanics need each other. Dossier is slow and Compound V is fast and terminal. Compound V pushes damage through, the damage triggers dossier, dossier exiles the blocker that was stopping the damage. Play one without the other and you have a durdle deck that never closes or a burn deck out of bodies on turn seven.
  • The engine room. Kimiko Miyashiro cannot be blocked by power 2 or less and files a dossier on connection; Marie Moreau flies, has lifelink and does it twice; Butcher's Crowbar gives its holder +2/+0 and the same trigger for one mana. The File on Everyone files a dossier every upkeep, Blow the Whistle files two and draws, and Publish the Dossier files three at once. The Flatiron Lock-Up banks a page counter every time an opponent gains dirt and exiles a creature for three of them.
  • Getting paid for the corpses. Mother's Milk gains 2 life and a +1/+1 counter every time another creature of yours dies, Frenchie deals 1 damage to any target on each sacrifice, Dictate of Erebos makes every opponent sacrifice a creature alongside you, and Ashnod's Altar converts each Compound V corpse into {C}{C}. Take the Compound pumps the whole board +4/+4 with trample and sacrifices all of it at the next end step.
  • Removal. Terminate, Deadly Rollick, Chaos Warp, Toxic Deluge and Blasphemous Act on top of the dossier clock, plus Diabolical — +4/+4, trample and indestructible on one of your creatures, sacrificed at the next end step, and a dossier filed on the way past.
  • Two combos, both on theme and both beatable at instant speed. Ashnod's Altar + Frenchie, Chemist of the Crew + a creature with Compound V: Frenchie taps to grant Compound V {0}, so the pump is free and the Altar eats the pumped body for {C}{C} before the end-step sacrifice ever arrives — walk it down the board for a pile of mana, then point Butcher's Crowbar at a face. Dictate of Erebos + The Compound V Vial: the Vial taps and sacrifices one of your creatures to give another +4/+4 and trample, and the Dictate makes every opponent sacrifice a creature each time — four of your bodies clears four of theirs, and dossier finishes whatever survived.

Thirty-five lands, and they are the locations rather than a mana base: Vought Tower, the Flatiron Basement, the Legend's Video Store, Sage Grove Center, the Church of the Collective, Voughtland, the Red River Institute and a Rooftop Overlook, behind Blood Crypt, Bloodstained Mire, Blackcleave Cliffs, Haunted Ridge, Dragonskull Summit, Luxury Suite, Castle Locthwain, Ancient Tomb, City of Brass and Command Tower. Three tokens — Human, Supe and Blood — come in the box.

Average mana value 2.7: turns one to three you are filing, and from turn four the third counter lands on whoever is ahead and their commander leaves the table in front of everyone.
