The Expanse — Burn

Led by the partners James Holden, Captain of the Rocinante and The Rocinante itself — a legendary Vehicle that can be your commander — this Jeskai (white/blue/red) 100-Card Commander Deck is set two centuries from now, when humanity has settled Mars and the asteroid belt and split into three peoples who hate each other: Earth, Mars and the Belters, born in low gravity. An ice hauler, the Canterbury, answers a distress call; its executive officer, James Holden, takes a shuttle out with five people, and while they're gone stealth frigates destroy the Canterbury. Holden broadcasts everything to everyone, a war begins, and the four survivors flee a dying Martian flagship aboard a corvette they declare legitimate salvage: the Rocinante. Behind it all lies the protomolecule. The cast includes Naomi Nagata, Amos Burton, Alex Kamal, Josephus Miller, Chrisjen Avasarala, Bobbie Draper, Camina Drummer, Klaes Ashford, Fred Johnson, Julie and Clarissa Mao, Marco Inaros and Praxidike Meng.

• Burn: word for word on fourteen ships — "Burn N (Whenever this Vehicle attacks, it deals N damage to up to one target creature defending player controls.)" An Epstein drive plume and a railgun reach much farther than the ship: every attacking ship takes out a blocker first. Vehicles crew normally; burn costs nothing and adds no counter.
• Holden is the plan: vigilance, he crews Vehicles as though his power were 3 greater, your Vehicles have burn 1, and whenever an opponent's creature dies after a Vehicle you control damaged it this turn, draw a card. The Rocinante is a 5/5 flier with burn 3 and crew 2: Holden flies it alone.
• Twenty-three cards carry or read burn: Naomi scries, Amos hits harder, Alex gives haste and +1 damage to every burn, Avasarala draws, Drummer makes Belters — more crew — Marco drains, Ashford pushes the ship, Praxidike heals.
