Why four colours, and why is black the one missing? Green is the mutation itself, white is the school, blue is Cerebro and the telepaths, red is every mutant who was told to wait and did not. Black is left out on purpose: this is the deck about the people trying to be better than what was done to them. The villains are still in the box — they just do not get their own colour.

Targeted power level: Bracket 4 — three combo routes, fast mana, a full tutor package and real interaction. Built to be the strongest deck at a table that is not playing cEDH.

Deck Strategy

Nobody starts at full power. Every fight leaves a counter. At three, the power comes online.

• X-GENE — Mutants enter powered down. Combat, damage and death all put mutation counters on them.
• MUTATION — Three counters and the real ability switches on — permanently, on twenty-two different cards.
• CEREBRO — Tutors that find mutants by counter count, so the deck assembles the exact team it needs.
• THE PHOENIX — Three combo routes, including a rebirth loop that comes back bigger every single time.
