Reminder card. THE NINE CIRCLES: you begin the game in Circle 1. Once during each of your turns, you may descend one circle. Each circle grants a permanent ability AND a permanent punishment, and you never climb back. Every ability and every punishment from Circle 1 down to where you stand is active at once, cumulatively, for the rest of the game.
1 LIMBO — ability: no maximum hand size, and you may look at the top card of your library any time. punishment: you can't search libraries.
2 LUST — ability: creatures you control have flying. punishment: creatures you control attack each combat if able.
3 GLUTTONY — ability: creatures you control have "

8 FRAUD — ability: whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, exile a nonland card at random from that player's hand; you may cast it for as long as it remains exiled and may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it. punishment: at the beginning of your upkeep, an opponent of your choice names a card in your hand; you can't cast it this turn.
9 TREACHERY — ability: at the beginning of combat on your turn, tap all creatures your opponents control; they don't untap during their controllers' next untap steps. punishment: creatures you control lose all activated abilities and can't have counters put on them.
There is no fire at the bottom. THE NINTH CIRCLE IS ICE — a frozen lake with the emperor of the place stuck in it up to the chest, and it is his own wings that keep it frozen.
CONTRAPASSO: whenever a permanent dies, its controller suffers what its own type calls for — artifact: that player sacrifices another artifact; creature: that player loses life equal to its power; enchantment: that player discards a card; land: that player mills three cards. You are not exempt. The sentence is never invented for the sinner; it is copied off the sin.
