The Nine Circles
You begin at Circle 1 and can descend one circle per turn, never climbing back. Each circle grants a permanent ability and inflicts a permanent punishment that stays with you for the rest of the game, so every descent is a real bet on what your deck needs most.
Contrapasso
Whenever any permanent dies, its controller pays a price dictated by that permanent's own card type: an artifact is paid for in artifacts, a creature costs life equal to its power, an enchantment costs a card from hand, and a land costs a card from the library. No one at the table is exempt, including you.
