Gears of War — Cover and Reload

Commanded by Marcus Fenix, Delta Squad Leader, this Naya (red/green/white) 100-Card Commander Deck is set on Sera after Emergence Day, when the Locust came up from under every city on the same afternoon and the war that followed was fought behind anything thicker than a man. The cast spans the saga: Delta Squad (Marcus, Dom, Cole, Baird), Anya Stroud, Colonel Hoffman, Chairman Prescott, Adam Fenix, Clayton Carmine, Tai Kaliso, Samantha Byrne, then JD Fenix, Kait Diaz, Del Walker and the robot Jack — with the Lancer, the Gnasher, the Longshot, the Torque Bow and the Hammer of Dawn.

• Take Cover: printed on fourteen cards. At the beginning of your end step, a soldier moves a cover counter from a Barricade you control onto itself — Sandbag Line, Concrete Barrier, Boomshield, the Burned-Out Armadillo, the Fallen Pillar of Ephyra. While covered, it can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control and their damage to it is prevented. Every soldier that ducks in wears the wall down.
• Pop Out: whenever a covered creature attacks or blocks, it loses all its cover — and nine cards pay you at that moment: Augustus Cole deals damage equal to his power, Kait Diaz builds a new Cover token, Dominic Santiago adds a +1/+1 counter. Counterstrike: The Burning of Sera, the only sweeper, destroys every creature that is NOT in cover.
• Active Reload N: printed on eleven Equipment. A reload counter goes on at the beginning of combat and each time the equipped creature attacks or blocks; pay {1} to remove them all. Exactly N is a Perfect Reload and the big effect, fewer is a Reload, more and it Jams. Anya Stroud and the Ammo Crate move the bar; Marcus answers each Perfect Reload by putting a cover counter on every Barricade you control.

Why Naya

White is the COG: rank, discipline, orders over the radio and the line that holds. Red is the weapon in hand: chainsaw bayonets, grenades, shotguns and the reload. Green is Sera and the bodies that hold it: the Stranded, the Outsiders, Cole, Tai and a borrowed Brumak. Two combos close the war: Wave After Wave (Horde Mode + Gnasher Shotgun) untaps your lands on every hit for unbounded extra combats, and The Perfect Loop (Damon S. Baird + Imulsion Power Cell + an Active Reload weapon at N) refunds every Perfect Reload in counters and mana. Pendulum Wars Surplus, COG Dog Tags and Gear Field Radio ramp; Squad Recall and Armory Requisition tutor; Execution Rules, Kryll Storm and Chainsaw Duel remove threats.
