Reminder card. The Same Technique Never Works Twice: whenever a spell or ability deals damage to a creature, that creature gains protection from spells and abilities with that name for the rest of the game.
It says A spell, not YOUR spells, and A creature, not a creature you control. It is a law of the table. The damage lands in full and the protection arrives afterwards, so this is not a counterspell, it is not chosen, and nothing grows from it. It is permanent, it is involuntary and it piles up on every creature every player controls — including everything your own burn has ever touched. COMBAT DAMAGE IS NOT A SPELL OR AN ABILITY, which is why this deck attacks.
The Cloth: if equipped creature would be destroyed, instead destroy the Equipment and create a Cloth Fragment token. Repair — pay 3 life to return it from your graveyard onto a creature you control, 3 life more for each time you have repaired this turn, and never with mana.
Only two things undo a technique: Excalibur and Shura cut one name out of one creature for a turn, and Another Dimension exiles a creature so it comes back as a new object with a blank record.
