Sonic the Hedgehog — Rings and Chaos Emeralds

Commanded by two partners, Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower, this Boros (red/white) 100-Card Commander Deck plays the same afternoon the games have played for thirty-five years: a blue hedgehog runs as fast as the screen will scroll, a doctor has put a live animal inside every robot on the way, and the only thing between the hedgehog and the end of the act is a pocket full of gold rings. Get hit and the rings fly everywhere; you grab what you can. Collect seven emeralds and he turns gold.

• Rings: whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you get that many ring counters. If damage would be dealt to you while you have a ring counter, it is prevented — you lose all your rings, then get back up to half of them. Forty rings are four turned-aside blows, not forty life. Tails gets a ring whenever artifacts enter, Big the Cat and Ring Monitor give three, Blaze the Cat burns each opponent every time you collect, and Vector the Crocodile, Bonus Stage, Light Speed Dash and The Giant Ring spend them.
• Chaos Emeralds: seven legendary colourless artifacts, green, blue, red, yellow, white, cyan and purple. Each is a mana rock with a small ability of its own, so each is worth playing alone. Tails can search for one every turn; Tikal the Echidna, Emerald Radar, Emerald Hunt and The Master Emerald, which makes them indestructible, complete the hunt.
• Go Super: control all seven with a ring counter and Sonic gets +7/+7, flying and indestructible — a hasty 10/9 commander that loses a ring at every upkeep and turns back to normal when they run out.
• Two combos: Metal Sonic copies E-100 Series Prototype, whose copy untaps Metal Sonic, for endless hasty artifact attackers, endless rings through Tails and endless damage through Blaze. Casino Night Slot Machine with Tails's Replicator makes unlimited colourless mana to pour into The Giant Ring.

Red is the run: haste, first strike, Spin Dash, Chaos Blast, a hundred Badniks broken open and The Eclipse Cannon. White is the team and the shield: Tails's Workshop, the Chaotix, Cream the Rabbit, Tikal's prayers and a ring count that stops any blow. The colourless third is the machinery — the Emeralds, the monitors, The Tornado, Starpost and Speed Shoes. The lands are the zones: Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Casino Night, Angel Island, Sky Sanctuary and Space Colony ARK.
