Wolverine — The Many Lives of Logan

Commanded by Logan, the Wolverine, this Gruul (red/green) 100-Card Commander Deck tells the story of a single man played eighteen times — the cage fighter, the Weapon X subject, the Ronin in Japan, the soldier of 1973, Old Man Logan in the desert of 2029, Patch, X-Force — and turns the legend rule into the engine of the deck.

• The Same Man: eighteen cards are all named Logan. When a new one enters, the one already on the battlefield is exiled instead of going to the graveyard; the newcomer keeps all of its counters, gets an extra +1/+1 counter, and you draw a card. Where every other legendary deck fears duplicates, this one wants to draw as many Logans as it can.
• Adamantium: Logan can't be destroyed. Damage dealt to him is prevented and becomes scar counters instead — counters that never clear at end of turn. When his scars equal his toughness, he goes down. You don't kill him; you wear him out.
• Healing Factor N: at your end step, remove up to N scar counters and lose 1 life for each. Every incarnation has its own N: the cage fighter heals 3, the Ronin heals 1 and pays double, and Old Man Logan is printed at Healing Factor 0 — he never heals again, and gets +1/+1 for every scar he carries.

Why Gruul

Red is the cage, the rage that decides before he does, the burning lab. Green is the animal, the trail, the regrowth, the pack he joins without admitting it. Twenty-two cards read scar counters, nine put them on, six remove them.
